Chance to Meet in Lincolnshire is for children, from birth right the way through to 18, who are Deaf, hard of hearing, visually impaired or Deafblind, with many of our members also having additional needs.

Children with sensory impairments often miss out on opportunities as they grow up such as social and leisure activities, educational opportunities and family days out. Activities are often inaccessible for our members, but they are vital in helping children learn to understand the world around them and gain life skills. They also help children to build friendships, develop a sense of identity amongst their peers and bond with friends and family through enjoying activities together. Lack of access to these opportunities can affect children’s development, emotional and physical wellbeing.

Across Lincolnshire we offer our members activities from bowling and sports to cooking sessions and days out, all tailored to our members’ age and needs. Families and siblings are also encouraged to participate enabling families to enjoy quality time together.

“My highlights this year were the Christmas party where we baked a Christmas tree pie, definitely the quizzes.”

“I was quite nervous when I first joined the [bowling] league as I wasn’t sure I would be good at bowling and I didn’t know anyone. Now I have friends that I meet with once a month and it is my time to do something I am now quite good at.”

Chance to Meet is like an extended family for many of our members and through our activities, children develop friendships and a sense of belonging and build their understanding of the world around them whilst bringing families and parents together to support one another.

“Events give us the chance to meet other families with children having the same (or similar) disabilities and have fun at the same time. We feel that seeing other kids with hearing aids/glasses etc. gives our children extra confidence in day-to-day life and the realization that it’s completely normal.”

With your support we will be able to continue running activities for our Chance to Meet families, creating life changing opportunities for our members. We are so thankful to everyone who can support Chance to Meet, thank you!
